What Is Biometric Security?
As a form of security or authentication, Biometric security uses something that is naturally part of a person (i.e. fingerprint, eye scan, etc) rather than requiring a person to enter a password. This technology has been around for quite some time now, but it has only recently become more widely implemented into our personal devices such as computers and smartphones.
Advantages of Biometric Security
Most people have passwords in place but they probably don’t have biometric security. If the latter is included, the two-factor required authentication can make their devices or data very secure. Biometric security “proves” a person’s identity with greater level of assurance. For example, if your computer was stolen, even if the thief could get your “fingerprint” to hack the device, they would have to know the password as well. Biometric security is also very difficult to duplicate. When measuring both physical and dynamic data, fingerprints or eyes are unique to each individual and those attributes rarely change over time. There’s nothing to remember and it would mean passwords and IDs wouldn’t be necessary.
