Anyone who has used social media for some time has likely clicked on a URL that has been shortened by Bit.ly. Bit.ly was the default link shortening service for Twitter from 2008 until 2011. On May 9, 2014 it was reported that Bit.ly, like so many other organizations, suffered a data breach that exposed customer information.
